Neptune Society, America’s oldest and largest cremation service provider, is focused on giving back to the communities it serves this holiday season through a variety of open houses, charity drives, and other events at many of its local offices.
Neptune Society offices have planned canned food drives and coat drives, are participating as drop off locations for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program, and holding open houses to celebrate the holidays in their communities.
Ocala / Summerfield Canned Food Drive and Open House
Neptune Society’s Summerfield, Florida office is holding a Canned Food Drive to benefit the First Step Food Bank in Ocala from November 25 through December 19th. Neptune Society will be accepting donations of canned and non-perishable food items in its office, located at 17350 SE 109 Terrace Road, Summerfield. The location is also holding a blood drive on December 7th from 9am to 12pm and an open house on December 19th .
All donations from the canned food drive will be delivered to First Step for distribution to assist Marion County families in need over the holidays. According to Cory Allen, Service Manager of Neptune’s Summerfield office, “There is currently a shortage of food in local food banks, so Neptune Society wants to help ensure that First Step Food Bank’s pantries are full this holiday season. Many people do not realize how many families experience hunger at this time of year. Our canned food drive is part of a community effort to ensure that all families in Marion County will have enough to eat this holiday season.”
On December 19th, the final day of the food drive, the Neptune Society Summerfield location will hold a holiday open house to celebrate the holidays and accept any last donations. According to Allen, “Families can bring their final canned or non-perishable food donations and enjoy our festive holiday decorations, as well as refreshments such as candy canes, cookies, and snacks. Families with children will even be able to visit with Santa Claus and take pictures using their own cameras.”
Atlanta Coat Drive
Neptune Society’s Atlanta office will be holding a Holiday Coat Drive at its office at 1831 Peachtree Road NE, Suite B, to benefit children in local schools and charities. From October 15 until November 30, the office is collecting new and gently used coats, gloves, scarves and hats, as well as sweaters, blankets and other items that might help a child or family keep warm this winter. Any used items should be pre-washed prior to donating. The office is also a Toys for Tots drop-off location.
Coats are being collected at Neptune Society’s Atlanta office. Mark Musselwhite, Service Manager for the Atlanta location says, “We are concerned that with winter coming, many children and families in the Atlanta area may be at risk of being caught without adequate warm clothing. We’re helping by collecting coats for local charities. Many people in the region may have at least one or two extra coats in the closet that they may not plan to wear. Donating these coats to our coat drive is something small yet meaningful that anyone can do to help others in need in our community.”
Multiple Locations: Toys for Tots
Multiple Neptune Society locations are also participating in the annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program. For more than 20 years, Toys for Tots has been an official activity of the U. S. Marine Corps and an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve. The Toys for Tots program collects new, unwrapped toys each year during October, November and December, and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.
