Melody was born on New Year’s Eve 1975 in Coconut Grove, Florida. She was a joyful child, known for her love of nature, art, and music. She graduated from Satellite Beach high school in 1993. She attended Brevard community college, University of Florida, and Florida State. Since her elementary school, West Lab, was on the campus of the University of Miami, we referred to her as a Semi-Gator-Cane. IYKYK
Melody played the violin, cello and the bass guitar. She performed with several bands, but most notably MIRA.
She moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004. She went on to pursue a career as a hairdresser and referred to it as “putting art on people‘s heads“. She had an excellent sense of humor.
She survived by her mother, Laura Pope (Gene) and her sisters Lillian Hines and China Ray (Shane, Cielle). She will be deeply missed by her family and friends and Aunts and Uncles, and Meli & Sarah who were her friends, band mates and “sisters.”
Melody loved her dog Barry, who is also mourning her absence. They spent a lot of time hiking around their favorite spots in the Bay Area.
Her passion for art and music was a significant influence on her life. Her spirit will live on through the countless memories she created.
Prior to her passing, Melody attended the Burning Man festival. As she was preparing for the trip, she told her Aunt Mona, that as an artist, she thought it could ”open some doors.”
Rest in peace, Melody your light will shine brightly in our hearts forever.
