Dixie Sue Schoolman

Dixie (Wright) Schoolman, 79, passed peacefully on November 11th with her husband Richard Schoolman by her side.

Dixie was part owner of Guys and Gals Children’s Shop, in Hardy, AR in the 1970’s. She also worked for the Hilton Hotel chain and traveled across the country. She was in charge of entertainment and hospitality and worked with many famous entertainers and celebrities, interacting with them on a regular basis. In addition to making sure they were happy and had what they needed, she also told them where they needed to be, what they needed to do, and was not afraid to challenge them if needed. Dixie’s sister, Linda, once saw her tell Bob Newhart to take a “step back” and Bob replied, “Ok, Miss Dixie”! Pretty darn good for a girl from Home Corner!

Dixie will be greatly missed and remembered for many things − her wonderful cooking, never missing sending out birthday or special occasion cards, her Christmas gift boxes that were works of art, her unwavering smile, her salutation, “Be Happy”! – but, her legacy is the unconditional love she gave and the grace she always showed through adversity.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Schoolman, Tennessee; sister, Linda (Wright) Horn, Indiana; three sons, Jeff Corey, Rusty (Keren) Corey, Arkansas; Bill (Pam) Schulz; Florida, a daughter; Teal Haviland, Tennessee; 2 step-children; Tim (Lisa) Schoolman, and Jill Carnall; Indiana, grandchildren; Tommy (Elizabeth) Corey, Destiny Maddox, Allyson & Autumn Schoolman, Blake & Brandon Carnall, Piper Haviland, Griffin & Avery Schulz and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret (Botkin) Bartow and Onie F. Wright, step-father, John Bartow, a brother, Larry Wright, maternal grandparents, Georgia (Waggoner) Botkin and Virgil Botkin, paternal grandparents, Mary (Michaels) Wright and Walter Wright.
