Dorothy came to California at the age of 14 and graduated from South San Francisco High School. Dorothy went on to become a San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff retiring after 15 years and moved to Paradise California where she resided with her husband, a State of California Parole Office for 35 years Gilbert C. Escalera. Dorothy and Gilbert were married 42 years and had 3 children: Jeral, Elena, and Mark Escalera, 3 grandchildren Kelly, Morgan, and Eric, 3 great grandchildren Gem, Griffen, and Sabrina. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at San Joaquin National Cemetery, Santa Nella, California
