

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Gertrude (nee Merrill) Card, Sr.; siblings, Raymond Card and Ronald Card, Jr.; grandson, Christopher Ronald Headley; as well as her beloved husband of 48 years, Richard Wayne Headley, Sr.
Janet was a third generation Sarasotan. She graduated from Sarasota High School in 1958 and would go on to graduate in 1961 as a RN from Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Although Janet spent some time working at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, her true passion was working at the Sarasota County Health Department. Janet earned her Masters of Public Health and Management with an emphasis in International Healthcare from the University of South Florida in 1992. She served as Director of Epidemiology and Communicable Disease Control until her retirement after 31 years of dedicated work. Upon retiring from Sarasota County Health Department, Janet’s calling to work as a Parish Nurse emerged; she worked under the auspices of the RN Health Program at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. Janet worked at Trinity United Methodist Church; which was not only her home church but, she was a founding member. Janet retired after 15 years of faithful service.
Aside from her professional accomplishments and accolades, Janet lived a faithful and joyful life. She was happiest while spending time with her family, who are blessed with so many wonderful memories. Her legacy is to be kind and helpful to others. Janet will be truly missed by all who loved her, may she rest in peace.
Janet is survived by cherished children, Jeannine (Stephen) Colbert, of St. Petersburg and Richard Wayne (Miriam) Headley. Jr., of Valrico; adoring grandchildren, Alexandria, Brendon, Catherine, and Madeline; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as dear friends and others whose lives she has touched through kindness.
Inurnment will be held 1:00pm Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Sarasota National Cemetery; 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241. A celebration of Janet’s life at Trinity United Methodist Church will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church; 4150 S. Shade Ave, Sarasota, FL 34231.
