Kent Lee Erickson, 85, passed away on June 1, 2025, from advanced prostate cancer. A devoted husband, Kent cared for his wife, who has Parkinson’s disease, for as long as he was able. Even as his own health declined, he made it a point to visit her as often as possible.
Kent was born on June 18, 1939, in Belvidere, South Dakota, to Harold E. and Eva L. (Carrico) Erickson. He retired as a Master Sergeant after serving 23 years in the U.S. Air Force and moved his family back to Oregon. His second career was as a non-destructive testing inspector, contributing to several Portland landmarks, including the U.S. Bank building, the Oregon Convention Center, and Portland International Airport.
In retirement, Kent and his wife, Jane, enjoyed traveling throughout Oregon in their RV. He also dedicated much of his time to volunteer work through the American Legion, serving fellow veterans and his community. His most cherished volunteer service was at the Portland VA hospital.
Kent is survived by his wife, Jane B. Erickson, a resident of Touching Hearts Care Home in Portland; his children: Keith Erickson (Fort Walton Beach, FL), Jeff Erickson (Front Royal, VA), Michele (Kris) Walley (Freeport, FL), and Barbette (Shiloh) Lewis (Medford, OR); his stepdaughter, Tracy Peets (Hillsboro, OR); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ed Erickson.
A military service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR, on July 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Interment will be private.
In honor of Kent’s memory, donations may be made to Portland VA Voluntary Services, through the Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE).
