June 29, 1948 – November 2, 2025
Bonnie Gruber, 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on November 2, 2025, in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was born on June 29, 1948, in Miami, Florida, to Ruth Fenton and Leo Gruber.
Bonnie spent her early years in Brooklyn and Oceanside, New York, before beginning a life rich in experiences and filled with love, laughter, and adventure. After high school, she married Ron Walotsky, an artist, and lived in the West Village. Together they lived and participated in the psychedelic art scene in New York City. They then moved to Mexico for some time.
Her life took a turn, and she moved to Woodstock, NY, with Frank Reubel, where they raised Lennon and Alex. In her late twenties, she opened a retail store in Woodstock called Tropical Connection, showcasing her creativity, independence, and entrepreneurial skills. After some time, in her early thirties, a single mother with two children at home, Bonnie returned to school in Upstate NY, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She went on to build a meaningful career as a nurse, lovingly caring for countless patients with compassion and dedication.
Bonnie then moved to Florida with her two boys and her newly born daughter, Fani. There she stayed and raised her family for over thirty years. During this time, she also cared for her elderly mother, Ruth, for almost 13 years until she passed.
Bonnie enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures — baking (and especially eating) cakes for all family gatherings, reading, thrifting, and finding treasures at yard sales to share or sell online. She loved animals deeply, regularly donating to animal charities.
Bonnie was delightfully quirky, modern, and free-spirited. She was never afraid to speak her mind, as you may well know, and approached life with fierce independence, honesty, and compassion for anyone in need. Bonnie always gave people a place to stay at her house and fed them countless times.
She is survived by her children, Lennon Walotsky, Alex Reubel, and Fani Gruber, and her three grandchildren, Skye, Raegan, and Maddison. She also leaves behind her loyal dogs, Yoko and Charlie, who were constant companions and sources of joy.
Bonnie’s love, laughter, and original outlook on life will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
