Douglas Schworer

Douglas Schworer passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2021. He was born in Manila, Philippines on February 5, 1954 before moving to New York in 1962. He was united in marriage to Lindsay Ann on August 28, 1982 in Tallahassee, FL. While raising three beautiful children, they moved many times across the country before settling in Chapel Hill, NC. In 2008, after becoming empty nesters, they began their next adventure together in Neptune Beach then Atlantic Beach, FL.

Doug had an adventurous spirit growing up as the only boy amongst his five sisters. He graduated with an MBA in Finance from FSU where he met his best friend and love of his life. He worked for many corporations, but his entrepreneurial spirit defined his success. He ran his own business for over 15 years allowing him to retire early and shine in his role as a husband, father, and grandfather.

You could find Doug chatting with someone, best friend or stranger, every day. He enjoyed successfully managing his money, riding his bike, playing pickleball, walking the beach, and most importantly spending time with his family. Happy hour will never be the same without Doug.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lindsay Schworer, daughter Emily (Max) Turner and three grandchildren, Ben, Jane, and Charlie, son William (Emily) Schworer, daughter Brigette Schworer, and sisters Anne Zolnier, Beth (Ed) Beck, Elise (Stan) Orme, and Foster Boom. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Don and Mary Schworer and his sister Carla Schworer.

His funeral Mass will take place April 17th at 1pm at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Jacksonville Beach or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
