Roger Dean Leonard Gubbels (76), of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on November 3, 2023. Roger was born to Cyril and Mary (Sauser) Gubbels on Valentine’s Day, 1947 in Randolph, Nebraska.
He was a kindhearted man who believed deeply in helping others whether that be through his service in the Army, building and repairing projects for his family and friends, helping high schoolers learn to build competitive robots, donating over 28 gallons of blood in his lifetime, volunteering at the VA hospital, or the countless other acts of kindness he quietly provided. Roger was quick with a joke and enjoyed spreading his jovial nature, and apple pies, with all those he met. He was a loving and devoted father, friend, and helper whose love for life will be missed.
Roger is survived by his daughter Rebecca Gubbels, son Jerad Gubbels, Jerad’s wife Kelly Gubbels, their children Charlie and Samuel, his caring ex-wife Connie Gubbels, brothers Luvern, Gene and Pat Gubbels, sister Rosalie Nordhues, and many loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Roger’s family will host a rosary and visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral mass at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in the Brookside area of Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Mid-America Chapter of the ALS Association in Roger’s name.
