
James was born and raised in Dalton (Whitfield Cty), GA and Quantico/Fredericksburg, VA and joined the USNavy in 1951 at NTC Great Lakes, IL, and served on USS Worcester (CL-144), USS A. T. Harris (DE-447), GLakes, IL (School), USS Gyatt (DDG-1), Bremerton, WA (School), USS C. F. Adams (DDG-2), USS Semmes (DDG-18), NWS Yorktown, CA, USS R. L. Page (DEG-5), NWS Concord, CA, and USS South Carolina (DLGN-37) serving proudly 25 yrs. years as GMCS (retired 4/30/1976), and 12 yrs at Hanford in 200 Area, 2101-M Bldg as Electrician, then Planner/Scheduler (retired 1/13/1989). He and Johanna were snowbirds to D-M AFB, Tucson, AZ as “younger retirees” until about the time Covid hit. He loved fishing the Columbia River, Moses Lake area, and before retiring, spent weekends at American Adventure at Soap Lake. He loved having friends over for fish frys during the summers.
He is survived by his wife of 49 yrs, Johanna of Richland, WA, dau. Karen (Antioch, CA), son Scott (Pasco, WA), step-daus. Kathi & Kelly, and Granddaughters Caroline & Phoebe (Seattle, WA).
He was predeceased by former spouse Beverly, son Stephen, Mother Sallie Mae, SIL, Rodney, DIL Wanda, his 4-legged shadow for many years, Samantha, and several cousins.
Jim was a LIFE Member of VFW Post 7952 (1981); Moose Lodge (1979), AMVETS, DAV, Amer. Legion, and Elks Lodge #2755. The family would like to thank ARNP Md Shadauzzaman, PCP of Kadlec Senior Health Care and Dr. Matharu, Pulmnologist, Lourdes, Pasco, for the care and support of Jim’s health challenges these past several years..
The Neptune Society is in charge, per James (Jim) wishes, no memorial service, and he will be interred at the WA Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake and a Celebration of Life at a later date.
