October 16, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Princeton, NJ, on
February 24, 1931, the son of Charles Logg Sr. and Anna (Lewis) Logg of Monmouth
Junction, NJ.
Chuck graduated from Rutgers University Class of 1953 where he earned a Bachelor’s in
Agriculture. While attending university, he met his future wife, Janice E. Tiedeman. Also,
while attending Rutgers Chuck qualified for the 1952 Summer Olympic games by winning
the US Olympic Trials on Lake Quinsigamond in Worchester, Ma with Tom Price in coxless
pair event. Chuck and Tom were an unlikely pair, as Chuck was a junior with three years
rowing experience, and Tom was a freshman who had just started rowing. They went on to
the 1952 Summer Olympic games held in Helsinki Finland, known as “The Cinderella Kids”
due to their surprise success, and in a shell named “Cinderella” to win the Gold Metal for
coxless pair event for the USA.
Upon graduation Chuck was commissioned by the United States Army as Second
Lieutenant, 1st Aviation Company. Chuck continued his education in the US Army by
graduating from the Ordinance School in 1954. He then went on to graduate from Army
Primary Flight school at Gary Air Force Base and proceeded to graduate from Army Aviation
and Engineering School in 1956. While in school with the United States Army, Chuck was a
member of the National Society of Scabbard and Blade in 1955.
Upon Chucks expiration of United States Army active duty in 1958 with rank of Captain,
he was commissioned by the National Guard of New Jersey as First Lieutenant in
Transportation Corps in 1959. While in the guard Chuck achieved the rank of Captain and
flew, by helicopter, many dignitaries to events requiring timely attention. While in New
Jersey, Chuck owned his own helicopter crop dusting business which provided crop
dusting to farmers and the State of New Jersey.
In the Fall of 1965 Chuck moved the family to Homestead, Florida to Farm Vegetables
and continue the Helicopter crop dusting business. Over many decades in Florida Chuck
was always working in various aspects of the farming industry which was his passion.
In the mid 70’s Chuck was remarried to Mary Frances while pursuing his passion in
farming. Upon retirement (although I don’t think he ever retired) he pursued his second
passion in rowing. He traveled all over the country to participate in rowing events into his
80’s.
In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his wife Mary Frances
(Thompson) November 17, 1999, daughter Patricia (Logg) Castner June 19, 2013; Sister
Beverly Ann (Logg) Katterman 2009 . He is survived by his children Joanne Logg of
Homestead, FL, Charles Douglas Logg of Milford, NJ, Margaret McGarty Homestead, FL,
David Logg Homestead, FL and John Logg of Scituate, MA; 14 grandchildren; and 7 greatgrandchildren and step daughters Becky and Dixie.
A celebration of life will be held in January 2026, location to be determined by David.
Interment will take place in the Atlantic Ocean.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charles memory may be made to Paws for Purple
Hearts or the ASPCA - American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
