Karen Ruth Seiderman (nee Kunes), 68, passed away on February 5, 2024, in Vero Beach, Florida after a lengthy illness. Karen was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 6, 1955, but immediately moved that following year to Levittown, Pennsylvania where she enjoyed an amazing and happy childhood that she spoke of almost every day of her life. From the beginning, her passion was art: ceramics, needlepoint, sketching, watercolor, painting, and illustration; her work was almost always child oriented. Following graduation from Neshaminy High School in 1973, Karen obtained her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Kutztown State College in elementary education and reading specialization and taught children in various locales. During that time, Karen took a trip to Israel, and seated beside her on the plane was the man who turned out to be the love of her life –- Edward Seiderman from Brooklyn, whom she married in 1983. The newlyweds moved to New York City where they lived for several years, enjoying all that city life had to offer, including their favorite place, the Museum of Natural History, before moving to St. Cloud, Florida to spend the next two decades as employees of Walt Disney World. To all who knew them, Karen and Ed were the happiest couple they’d ever met. They never spent a night apart and probably watched all 182 episodes of “I Love Lucy” more than anybody in history. When Ed’s life was cut short by Parkinson’s in 2016, Karen moved to Sebastian, Florida where she up her new house and moved ahead with a life of her own. Unfortunately, she developed several medical issues that stacked up rapidly, but their origin was most likely due to a broken heart. Gone way too soon is putting it mildly; Karen had much more to offer this world, and those who knew her will miss her forever. Karen was petite with curly red hair and shy on the surface, but don’t be fooled for a second -- she was a brave woman who faced challenges head on, right up to the end. Karen is survived by the parents she loved more than life itself, Alma and Chuck Kunes, of Langhorne, Pennsylvania; a sister, Susan Gervolino (John) of Ponce Inlet, Florida; a sister, Andrea Martin (Fred) of Sterling Heights, Michigan; a brother, Steven Kunes, of Langhorne, Pennsylvania; nieces Jaclyn Gilkey (Josh), Casey Gervolino, Melanie Zamenhof (Alex), and Kimberly Bartold; nephew Nathaniel Kunes (Natalie); five great nieces (Mayah, Malin, Maren, Hope and Zoe); two great nephews (Jackson and Harrison); her favorite aunt, Ruth Kunes of Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania; and eleven cousins. Other survivors include her three lifelong friends: Carol Klages, Laura Walker, and Joe Orr, otherwise known as “the three amigos.” Per Karen’s wishes, her arrangements were entrusted to the Neptune Society. She has been returned to the sea, in the same location as her beloved husband Ed, about six miles due east of Pompano Beach, Florida. If you wish to speak to either of them, look to Venus (the morning star) at dawn. They’ll leave the light on for you.
