Steve Alfons Eilers

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Steven Eilers, who died on November 4, 2023. Steve was a loving husband to Angie, devoted and playful father to his two beautiful children Sebastian and Eloise, dear son of Alfons and Rosemarie (preceded in death), cherished brother to Rita Bailey and Renate Jordan and beloved by his in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and strength. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment with them. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He touched the hearts of many with his infectious smile, fun-loving attitude and warm personality.

Steve was born on September 6, 1976, and grew up in Santa Monica. He graduated from Loyola High School Cum Laude in 1994 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies - Honors Program from the University of San Diego in 1998.

A dedicated professional, Steve spent his entire 25-plus-year career with Gen Re in Property Facultative, in both the New York and Los Angeles markets. He excelled in his career and made a positive impact on both Gen Re and the larger insurance community. His career was defined by his passion, willingness to help, and the ability to find common ground.

Apart from a memorable two-year adventure in New York City, Steve lived in Southern California beach communities, most recently in Hermosa Beach. Being at the beach with family and friends was Steve’s happy place. He also loved honing his grilling skills in search of that perfectly cooked steak, best enjoyed with a cocktail or a choice wine. Steve took immense pride in his German heritage, and donned his lederhosen any chance he got. He had an insatiable curiosity for life, always seeking new ocean, camping and fishing adventures with loved ones by his side.

He held a deep faith and the community of the Catholic Church was an important part of his life. Details on the memorial service to celebrate his life can be found below.

In lieu of flowers, Steve requested that memorial tributes be made to the Steven Eilers Family Endowed Scholarship, which supports undergraduate students studying Risk Management at the USC Marshall School of Business. Steve was forever grateful for the friends he made and the support he received over his career. He established this scholarship with the hope to pay it forward in perpetuity to young students entering the insurance industry, while also celebrating his life and legacy.
