Louis Anthony Lazzara of Sherman Oaks, CA entered into eternal rest on August 24, 2021 at age 62. Devoted brother of Anthony (Marie) Lazzara Jr., Philip (Monica) Lazzara, and Michele Lazzara; cherished uncle of Jenny (Andrew) Reynolds, Joseph (Kaitlyn) Publicker, Michael Publicker, Anthony Lazzara III, and Nicholas Lazzara; dearest great-uncle of Katherine Reynolds and Tallulah Publicker; loving son of the late Anthony and Nancy Lazzara; also survived by loving cousins and friends.
Louis was born on February 20, 1959 in Paterson, New Jersey. Since the age of 5 Louis was drawn to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. He often reflected on the late nights sneaking out of bed only to watch the Black and White classics. He was always joined by his Mom who then cuddled with him and nick-named him “late night Louie”.
Louis was not only fascinated with the big screen, but with behind the scenes activities, specifically, Special Effects Make up. This creativity started to take shape in the basement of his childhood home.
He attended school #27 in the Paterson school district and graduated from Don Bosco Technical High School in 1977 where he enjoyed drafting and track & field (he lettered in the shot put). After attending William Paterson University for two years, it was time he fulfilled the “pact” he made with his Mom – to go to Hollywood and live out his dream!
Since 1981, Louis had a long and successful career as a professional make-up artist. Louis started his career with Johnny Carson in New York and eventually became Arnold Schwarzenegger’s, and then Dwayne Johnson’s, personal make-up artist. During his 41-year career, he was the make-up artist for some well-known films such as the Friday the 13th franchise, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Scorpion King, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Eraser, Tooth Fairy, Jobs, and Lincoln…to name a few. In 2000, Louis was nominated for a primetime Emmy for outstanding makeup in a TV series. In his free time, Louis also loved to paint and sculpt. Some of his pieces were on loan at a Hollywood art gallery and he donated some of his artwork to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences library. He enjoyed entertaining, had a passion for cooking and loved to travel. Louis treasured his time with family and friends – his boisterous laugh, dynamite smile and beautiful soul rewarded him with the lifelong friends he was blessed with until his passing.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Louis's life at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, The Newhall Room, 24500 Town Center Dr. Valencia, CA 91355 on Saturday October 2, 2021 from 1:00 – 3:00pm.
