Vicki was born Sept 14, 1945 to Les & Dolores Henjum in Spokane, WA. Vicki was the oldest of 4 siblings, her brothers Ken and Dennis Henjum, and her “favorite” little sister Donna (Dennis) Heinen. As the eldest child, Vicki took her job very seriously and always had the situation under control. She took the title and duties of being “The Boss” to the very end, and she never had a problem letting you know that she was “In-Charge.”
Vicki married her high school sweetheart Dan on January 25, 1969 celebrating their love for each other just short of 35 years, when Dan left this earth to go and wait for Vicki in Heaven. Vicki was blessed to be the “mother” or “mom” to 5 children Noreen Rene’, (Pasha), Dennis, Tina, Don (Romy), and Mike. Vicki had the most amazing relationship with her grandchildren Tim (Alicia), Kasandra (Ronnie), Jessica (Matt), Alexis (Tony), Andrew (Rodrigo), “Bug” and Aiden. Vicki was equally blessed to be great-grandma to EmmaLee, Alliyah, Teagan and Jadzia. Family came first to Vicki and through the age of technology she was able to keep close tabs with nieces, nephews (Aunt Vicki), cousins, and many friends both near and far.
Vicki graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1963 and was honored to be the “President” of the Paul Anka Fan Club – Spokane Chapter. Vicki loved music and it evoked emotion for her, you would almost always find her foot or hand tapping right along with the rhythm. Fulfilling one of her biggest dreams was when she attended “Watershed”, as she said it was her “Woodstock”. Professionally Vicki was always found behind the desk greeting patients and managing the office of a busy Physical Therapy Clinic until she retired and was able to enjoy every day being “Saturday”.
Vicki had many interests; she and Dan loved bowling and made many lifelong friends along the way. When not bowling, they could be found at “the cabin” on Lake Roosevelt with family and friends or you could find just the two of them fishing on Marshall Lake. After Vicki lost Dan, she filled her home and days with her grandchildren doing many home improvements, crafts, decorating for the holidays (not a single year went by without the annual “Tree Decorating Party” where all the grandkids gathered to decorate her tree and in return, she would fill their bellies) To say that Vicki lived to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren would be an understatement. To know the “real” Vicki just spend time with any one of them and listen as they tell of the stories of many antics with grandma. Grandma Vicki always had the time to spoil each grandchild in their own unique way. Anyone who had the chance to walk into her home always arrived with the feeling of a warm hug as she surrounded her home with many family heirloom treasures and loved to share a story of the significance of each treasure and very rarely would you leave without a full belly. Vicki’s love language was best expressed with food, most notably her Deviled Eggs or homemade burritos. Vicki also loved to travel, one of her most memorable trips was to Paris France where she saw the Eiffel Tower through tears of joy. And no “rainy day” would be complete without a trip to the casino with her little sister Donna.
Staying true to Vicki’s need to be in charge, Vicki lost the battle but won the war and left this world on her terms. Although we are sad, we know that she did it her way. To grant her final wishes no funeral services will be held. At her request we will celebrate her life with family and friends by telling stories filled with laughs, love, hugs and of course you will leave with a full belly. Please feel free to bring a dozen deviled eggs in her honor as we will be judging to see who did it best.
Celebration of Life to he held Sunday Sept. 12, 2021 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the Rose Hurst Gardens
7527 N Market St, Spokane, WA 99217
