

Rodger C. Lewis of Crawfordville FL passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the age of 98. Born in Chicago. IL on February 22, 1924, he was the son of the late Burnette Lewis and Grace Conklin Lewis.
Rodger enlisted in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, serving as a navigator in combat in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Under the GI Bill he began his college career at The University of Miami. He was recalled during the Korean Conflict and flew combat missions there as well. Upon his return to The States, he finished his master’s degree in English, then obtained his master’s degree in Library Science at Florida State University. Along the way, he worked in Air Traffic Control and at multiple academic libraries around the Country. He enjoyed canoeing, hiking, parachute jumping, swimming, weight lifting, sailing and flying gliders. He even obtained his pilot’s license. He was very happy to jump into the car and drive across the Country or hop on an airplane and visit places in Europe.
Rodger is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his son Marc and daughter-in-law, Bobbi. He is also survived by his sister Judy Cook and brother-in-law Lynn Cook. Additionally, his brother-in-law, James Gonsiewski and sister-in-law, Robin Gonsiewski also survive him. Additional survivors include his nephew, Matthew Gonsiewski and his spouse Julianna Goddard; his niece, Allie Dillard and her spouse Jon Dillard; his nephew, Michael Cook and his spouse Joy Cook; his nephew Todd Cook and his spouse Sandy Cook; and his niece Nancy McKay; as well as 4 grand-nephews, 2 grandnieces and 2 great grandnephews.
The family would like to thank Big Bend Hospice for the care and compassion they show Rodger in his final days.
