My Father, William Frank Pearce, lived in Goldthwaite, in 1890.  My Father told me stories of the times, and of " an old German farmer named Schwartz" who had  watermelons, that we would steal, and later eat at tje Blue Hole.  The Blue Hole, a spring about 5 miles out on the Farm to Town Road where locals drew fresh water, and swam.  My Father was 15 years old at that time.   " Schwartz had a mean dog, and kept a shotgun loaded with rock salt, as defense against thieves.  My Dad said that no other farmers cared if one took a few melons, only Schwartz.   Years later my son, and I,  visited Goldthwaite, and the Schwartz  Market which sits on the way to the Blue Hole.  My Father never mentioned the first name of the " old German farmer".  God Bless the Schwartz Family.      P.S.  I figure that I owe the Family about  $500.00 + for his transgressions; at least.
