Dr. Nelson F. Jones passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, 2021 in Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by family. He was 93 years old. Dr. Jones was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1928, to Nelson F. Jones, Sr. and Alice Ida Dabbs. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1953, in Indonesia and Italy, where he first developed an interest in psychology.

Dr. Jones did his undergraduate work at Tulane University. He received his PhD in Psychology from Northwestern University in 1959.
He was a co-founder and long-time dean of The University of Denver Graduate School of Professional Psychology. He loved to train professional psychologists and threw a fun faculty party. He could be found nearly every night in his study reading PhD dissertations. He also loved outdoor pursuits in the Rocky Mountains and classical music.
No formal memorial service is planned. Nelson considered his living legacy to be the students he taught and mentored at The DU Graduate School of Professional Psychology.
