She continued serving bereaved families as a funeral director with Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in historic Metairie Cemetery from 1998 until 2005, when Hurricane Katrina forced her to evacuate the city. Amy relocated to Northern Virginia to care for aging family members, where she gained additional end-of-life experience with the mid-Atlantic’s oldest and largest non-profit hospice and palliative care provider, Capital Caring. Managing and training nearly 300 inpatient center and home-care hospice volunteers as Volunteer Services Coordinator, she was touched, every day, by the dedication of hospice volunteers and staff who brought comfort and emotional support to both those at the end of life and to their loved ones.
