As a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Amy Delery began her career in funeral service in 1980 at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home on South Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans, where she received excellent training and experience with one of the oldest funeral homes in New Orleans, and was promoted to manager three years later. She continued serving bereaved families as a funeral director with Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in historic Metairie Cemetery from 1998 until 2005, when Hurricane Katrina forced her to evacuate the city. Amy relocated to Northern Virginia to care for aging family members, where she gained additional end-of-life experience with the mid-Atlantic’s oldest and largest non-profit hospice and palliative care provider, Capital Caring. Managing and training nearly 300 inpatient center and home-care hospice volunteers as Volunteer Services Coordinator, she was touched, every day, by the dedication of hospice volunteers and staff who brought comfort and emotional support to both those at the end of life and to their loved ones. She believes that kindness, patience and understanding are compassionate gifts we offer to one another. Recently back in New Orleans, Amy brings a wealth of experience to caring for grieving families through her work with the Neptune Society of New Orleans.
