He is currently enrolled in classes to receive his BS in Interdisciplinary Studies. Joanna has lived in the Valley for over 30 years. Over the years she has lost many personal loved ones. Her work as a former caregiver has given her experience in dealing with loss and its impact on families. Volunteer work with the local fire department allows her to help families at their immediate time of loss. She has learned how to be the strength in the storm. She believes this is truly a calling for her and feels blessed to be able to help those who are going through loss. As a degreed professional in the mortuary industry, she is able to help people at their greatest time of need, with integrity and care. She feels she is right where she is meant to be. Currently she is a Licensed Embalmer and Cremationist, and is working towards getting a Funeral Directors License.
Susan has only been with Neptune Society for three years, but in this short time she has learned so much.
She enjoys meeting the different families from day to day and helping them get through their difficult times. She is active in the American Legion and the Eagles.
She has lived in Arizona for 30 years. On most weekends she heads up north to a little cabin in the woods on a dirt road to relax, ride her quad, and get away.
Receptionist and Administrative Assistant
Chris Georges has been with Neptune Society for about a year. However, she has lived and breathed funeral service for over forty years – first supporting her husband’s career as a funeral director, then as a courier and administrative assistant for a Dignity Memorial funeral home and crematory until coming to Neptune Society in 2015. She thoroughly enjoys the families we serve and the rest of the staff.
In addition to her work here at Neptune Society, Chris is still married to her funeral director husband. She has 3 wonderful children, 12 outstanding grandchildren, and 1 truly awesome great-grandchild. Family and church are her primary focus outside of work, leaving just a smidge of time for photography, reading and travel.
In the CommunityNeptune Society Tempe, AZ - Works with Local Food Bank in A Creative Way this Holiday Season
Hope floats: The Neptune team in Phoenix donated enough food to St. Mary’s Food Bank to win the honor of having their own “Santa,” Office Coordinator Bill Amperse, get his picture taken under water (well, in the deep end of the pool) with a SCUBA team.
Thanks to St. Mary’s for all you do in helping those in need in our community, and kudos to our Phoenix Santa and elves for their spirit of fun and giving!
Neptune Society Tempe, AZ - Spreading the Word for the Neptune Society Bear Program
In September of 2016, Neptune Society of Tempe, AZ., sponsored the quarterly meeting for the Mesa Fire Department Critical Response Team and the Mesa Police Department Victim Assistance Program. We provided the food and brought our Neptune Society Bears with us for all the volunteers to have available when they go out on a call and there is a child that needs comforting. Ron Maynez (Funeral Director and Office Manager) and Joanna “Jody” Dewey (Funeral Director Intern) were both there as they shared the Neptune Society Bear Program. They learned about Situational Safety for when they are sent to help families who have just lost a loved one, and about Suicide Grief support as now both the police and fire volunteers will deal with suicides in Mesa, Arizona.
Neptune Society Tempe, AZ - Child's Bear Program
It is with great excitement and anticipation of good things to come that we expand the Child’s Bear Program for children suffering a traumatic loss. We, here in Tempe AZ, have started including the local veterinarian clinics and hospitals. After all, a loss of a pet can be very traumatic for a child. So, our hope is that this furry stuffed animal can and will provide some comfort. Knowing that Neptune is providing this service really helps give our name a positive connotation.
